What Sabawoon Is
Sabawoon is the Dari word for morning. It is a word that carries weight in Afghan culture, the beginning of something, the light after a long night. That is what this magazine is about.
Sabawoon Magazine is a publication of the Kabul Institute dedicated to Afghan culture, identity, and resilience. Not the version of Afghanistan the world has consumed through war coverage and crisis reporting. The version Afghans actually live, remember, and carry with them wherever they are.
Every story is told by Afghans. Every issue is rooted in the conviction that Afghan culture does not need outside validation to be worth celebrating.
